2 MONTHS BEFORE POLLS | Poe, Villar lead Magdalo survey; Alejano not in Top 12

(MARCH 14, 2019) – Re-electionist senators Grace Poe and Cynthia Villar have kept their lead over other 2019 senatorial hopefuls as they topped a pre-election survey conducted by the Magdalo Group.
Poe clinched the top spot with a 60.6 percent voter preference while Villar landed second with 49.2 percent.
Actor-turned-politician Lito Lapid came in third with 43.9 percent, followed by Taguig Rep. Pia Cayetano (41.7 percent) and Bong Revilla (41.6 percent).
Former presidential aide Christopher “Bong” Go sported a 10-spot leap, landing sixth with 41.1 percent. He was number 16 in the Magdalo survey conducted in January.
Below are other candidates who rounded up the top 16:
7. Nancy Binay (34.7 percent)
8. Jinggoy Estrada (33.2 percent)
9. Bam Aquino (32.6 percent)
10. Imee Marcos (31.0 percent)
11. Mar Roxas (30.9 percent)
12. Koko Pimentel (30.2 percent)
13. Sonny Angara (29.9 percent)
14. Bato Dela Rosa (26.9 percent)
15. Francis Tolentino (26.5 percent)
16. JV Ejercito (24.5 percent)
But the Magdalo-backed survey was not exactly a respite to its own aspirant Magdalo Rep Gary Alejano, who failed to make it to the “Magic 12.”
Alejano ranked 21st in the survey, a four-point improvement from placing 25th in his group’s January polls.
Still, Magdalo chairman Senator Antonio Trillanes IV claimed that Alejano and the other “lesser known” Otso Diretso senatoriables “have started to gain momentum.”
The survey showed that opposition bet Samira Gutoc placed 23rd from 31st, while human rights lawyer Chel Diokno came in 25th.
Erin Tañada and Romulo Macalintal ranked 26th and 27th, respectively, while former solicitor-general Florin Hilbay “still has some catching up to do” at number 35.
The Magdalo in-house survey was conducted from March 5 to 7 using face-to-face interviews with 3,000 respondents across different regions. It has a sampling margin of error of 1.8 percent.
