#BangsamoroPlebiscite | Cotabato, Maguindanao vote ‘yes’ for BOL

JANUARY 22, 2019 — Residents of Cotabato province voted in favor of ratifying the Bangsamoro Organic Law (BOL), which had twice refused to join the existing Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao.

Based on the final and official results of the Cotabato City Plebiscite Board of Canvassers, at around 8:42 p.m. on Tuesday 36,862 voted in favor and 24,994 against the law.

 

The official tally showed “no” votes started out with the lead early in the day, before the “yes” broke away in the afternoon.

Should the bill be ratified, Cotabato City will now be part of the proposed Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM).

Meanwhile, Maguindanao province overwhelmingly voted “yes” to ratify the BOL.

The Commission on Elections (Comelec) reported a landslide vote with a total of 599,981 whiles vote’s against the BOL came at 9,096.

A total of 36 cities and municipalities were canvassed for the province which has 650,244 registered voters.

Comelec said 608,846 people voted in the plebiscite.

If the January 21 plebiscite results in a vote for the BOL, a second plebiscite is set to be held on the 6th of February in six municipalities of Lanao del Norte and 39 barangays of North Cotabato.
