(FEBRUARY 12, 2019) – Twelve of the 13 candidates endorsed by Davao City mayor Sara Duterte’s Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP) attended the party’s kick-off rally in San Fernando, Pampanga, as the campaign period for the 2019 midterm elections officially began.

Only former Senate President Koko Pimentel was absent, but his wife Kathrine graced the event in his stead.

Pampanga governor Lilia Pineda, and House Speaker Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo were also present in the HNP rally as allies of President Rodrigo Duterte.

Both leaders urged the Kapampangan people to support the party’s candidates as well as the senatorial-aspirants endorsed by the president.

“Noong nakaraang halalan, pinakamalaking landslide ni Pangulong Duterte sa labas ng kanyang balwarte ang Pampanga. Nitong halalan, bigyan ulit natin ng pinakamalaking landslide ang mga kandidato ni Pres. Duterte,” Arroyo said.

Former senators Bong Revilla and Jinggoy Estrada, who both faced plunder cases regarding the multi-billion pork barrel scam, also showed up.

Presidential aide Bong Go said he will continue the current administration’s campaign against corruption, crime and drugs. Ilocos Norte governor Imee Marcos’ speech highlighted livelihood for women.

Mayor Sara Duterte personally made a pitch for the party’s candidates, noting their public service records and senatorial platforms.

Also drumbeating their candidacies were re-electionists Cynthia Villar, Sonny Angara and JV Ejercito, former PNP and Bureau of Corrections chief Ronald dela Rosa, Taguig Rep. Pia Cayetano and Maguindanao Rep. Zajid Mangudadatu.
