DEMAND AN APOLOGY | Aquino slams gov’t’s inaction on China’s harassment in Panatag

JUNE 14, 2018 – Senator Bam Aquino insisted that if the Philippine government will not file a diplomatic protest against China for taking away the catch of Filipino fishermen in Panatag (Scarborough Shoal), the least it could do is to demand an apology from them.
Pero kahit sorry, hindi man lang hiningi,” Aquino said in a statement.
Filipino fishermen recorded an incident where Chinese Coast Guard personnel were shown taking their catch. They said they usually lose more than P25,000 from a five-day fishing expedition because of such incidents.
Aquino said that if the Philippine government will not take any action to address the incident, the Chinese Coast Guard will continue to commit more abuses against Filipino fishermen.
Bam.
On 2016, the Philippines won a historic decision, with the U.N. Arbitral Tribunal invalidating China’s “nine-dash line” claim in the West Philippine Sea. The ruling also stated that we have the right to fish in Scarborough Shoal which is well within our exclusive economic zone.
