DUE TO EXCESSIVE DRINKING | Duterte admits ailment

September 22, 2018 – President Rodrigo Duterte admitted Friday that he underwent medical examinations about a week ago and was diagnosed with an illness.

In a forum in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, Duterte revealed he had to undergo colonoscopy and endoscopy and was diagnosed with Barrett’s esophagus which was caused by excessive drinking.

“Well, I have a bad case of Barrett. He (the doctor) said, if you’ll just stop drinking, you will live,” he said.

Colonoscopy is an examination conducted to check for abnormalities or diseases in the colon or lower intestine while endoscopy is done to examine the digestive tract.

Meanwhile, Barret’s esophagus is a medical condition wherein the normal tissues in the esophagus change into tissues similar to that of the intestine.

The president also joked to pray for constipation if anyone desires to live forever, saying that his mother was always constipated but lived for 96 years.

“Historically, I took after my mother who was always constipated. That was her complaint, but she lived to be 96 years old. So if you want to live forever, pray for constipation,” he said.

Last month, Magdalo Rep. Gary Alejano claimed that the president is not in good health.

Communist Party of the Philippines founder Joma Sison also alleged through unverified reports that Duterte had been in comatose.

Both claims were dismissed by Malacañang, saying that the president is “healthy” and in “high spirit.”
