‘FOCUS ON YOUR JOB’ | Sen. Trillanes tells Sec. Locsin to stay off Twitter

JANUARY 17, 2019 — Senator Antonio Trillanes IV on Thursday advised Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro “Teddyboy” Locsin Jr. to focus on his job and lay off Twitter following the alleged passport data breach.

“One unsolicited advise kay Secretary Locsin: Mag-focus muna siya sa trabaho niya being the top diplomat of the country at medyo lubay-lubayan niya muna ‘yung social media, kasi hindi naman siya mangangampanya. Hindi naman siya elected official. Top diplomat siya,” Trillanes said on Thursday during the weekly Kapihan sa Senado media forum.

Last week, Locsin tweeted that one of the agency’s passport makers, whose contract with the government has exprded, “took off” with the personal data of Filipino passport holders.

Trillanes said Locsin’s tweet raised concerns among passport holders and raised security issues.

“Puno’t dulo nyan eh dahil nakababad siya sa Twitter. Hindi niya pala alam ‘yung sitwasyon, nag-research sana siya muna sa kanyang departamento para malalim-lalim ‘yung kanyang nalalaman. Ngayon, hindi ganyan na babawiin niya,”” Trillanes said.

“Masyado siyang nakababad sa social media, sa Twitter in particular, tapos pinapatulan nya kung ano-anong mga komentaryo dun,” he added.

Locsin later retracted his statement, clarifying that the data is not “run-away-able” and was instead made inaccessible. Experts from a government-owned firm later said that the data can be accessed.

Trillanes also said Locsin should use his Twitter account for good news and policies that the public should know.

Trillanes and Senator Risa Hontiveros have also passed a resolution to open an inquiry into the issue.
