FOUR IN NINE DAYS | Tawi-tawi vice mayor gunned down in Zamboanga City

July 11, 2018 – Vice Mayor Al Rashid Mohammad Ali of Sapa-Sapa, Tawi-Tawi was shot and killed in Zamboanga City, Wednesday afternoon by an unknown asssilant.
Initial reports said the 52-year-old Ali was on board a Toyota Innova with his wife and security escort and travelling along Governor Alvarez Street when the gunman casually approached the vehicle after it slowed down due to traffic.
Witnesses say the killer then fired through the window on the passenger side of the vehicle, hitting Ali on the chest two times. The gunman fled to the other side of the road where he boarded a waiting motorcycle, witnesses added. Ali was rushed to a hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
The death of Ali brings to four the number of high-ranking local government officials killed by assassins in just nine days.
On Monday last week, Tanauan City Mayor Antonio Halili was shot by a rifleman while attending a flag-raising ceremony. A day later, the mayor of General Tinio, Nueva Ecija was felled by a gunman while on board his SUV while leaving a NIA project. Last Saturday, Trece Martires Vice Mayor Alexander Lubigan was ambushed, one day after he announced his intention to run as mayor.
