‘HINDI PAPATULAN’ | Palace: Trillanes should take drug test instead

DECEMBER 6, 2018 – Malacañang on Thursday said President Rodrigo Duterte will not dignify Senator Antonio Trillanes’ challenge for him to undergo a drug test after his marijuana use joke.

“I think he (Trillanes) should be the one to undergo that. Hindi niya (Duterte) papatulan ‘yon,” Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo said in a Palace press briefing.

“Hindi kailangan. Eh talaga namang – look at this person, this president. Malakas. Sinasabi niya naman sa atin kung ano ang diperensya niya eh,” he added.

Trillanes challenged Duterte to undergo drug testing after the chief executive joked about his marijuana use to keep up with his hectic schedule.

“Duterte is desperately trying to contain the damage of his admission about marijuana use by saying it is just a joke,” Trillanes said in a statement.

“Too late! Bistado na siya na isa rin pala siyang durugista. Now, if he really wants to clear himself, I am again calling on him to take a drug test,” he added.

Duterte had clarified that he was just joking when he made the statement and was just trying to lighten up the mood.

The Palace came to Duterte’s defense and said the president – just like any other person is entitled to make jokes.

Trillanes himself took a drug test at the Senate last July, which showed negative results for the five types of illegal drugs covered.

The senator then dared Duterte and his son, former Davao City vice mayor Paolo Duterte to take drug screening to prove they are not involved in the illegal drug trade.
