‘INSULT TO FILIPINOS’ | Robredo denounces taho-throwing incident at MRT station

February 10, 2019 – Vice President Leni Robredo denounced on Sunday the “disrespect” shown by a Chinese national who threw a “taho” at a police officer assigned at the Boni station of MRT on Saturday.

Robredo said the act was an “insult” not only to police but to the Philippines and all Filipinos.

“Hindi lang pambabastos sa pulis, pero pambabastos ito sa bansa natin,” she said in her weekly radio show “BISErbisyong LENI.”

The Vice President stressed the hospitality extended by Filipinos to the Chinese and other foreign nationals in the country, adding that they should respect the Philippines and its people in return.

The special treatment being given to them might have paved the way for some of them to be disrespectful, she added.

“[W]ake-up call iyon sa ating lahat. Ano ba talaga? Maraming reklamo na iyong mga trabahong dapat sana sa Pilipino, nabibigay pa sa Instik. Tapos ito pa, parang kinakalinga natin sila tapos binabastos nila tayo.”

On Saturday, authorities filed direct assault, disobedience to agent of authority and unjust vexation charges against the Chinese woman identified as Jiale Zhang after she threw her drink to Police Officer 1 William Cristobal who was reminding her of the no drink policy in the MRT.
