LIFTED | Duterte lifts deployment ban of OFWs to Kuwait
1 week ago
MAY 16, 2018 – President Rodrigo Duterte instructed Labor Secretary Silvestre Bello III to lift the ban on deployment of overseas Filipino workers to Kuwait.
According to Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque, this was upon the recommendation of Special Envoy to Kuwait Abdullah Mama-o to the President.
The order to lift the deployment ban came days after the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement between the Philippines and Kuwait on the protection of OFWs in the said country.
It can be recalled that Duterte said he would lift the ban once the Kuwaiti government agrees to abide to specific conditions with regards to the welfare of domestic Filipino workers.
Last February, Duterte ordered the deployment ban after learning about the death of OFW Joanna Demafelis who was found dead inside a freezer in an abandoned apartment.
