NDRRMC UPDATE | Habagat onslaught damages P4.6-B worth of crops, structures

AUGUST 10, 2018 – Damages due to the monsoon rains have already amounted to P4.66 billion as of yesterday, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) reported.

The agriculture sector posted around P3.28 billion damages mostly in crops such as rice, corn, and cassava. A total of P1.37 billion, meanwhile, was destroyed in infrastructure.

The figures were reported in Ilocos region, Cagayan Valley, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Western Visayas and Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR).

As of Friday, a total of 467,812 familes were also affected by flooding and landslides brought about by the rains.

Of this number, a total of 77,867 are being served inside and outside the evacuation centers, the NDRRMC said. The government and other organizations provided a total of P112.85 million worth of assistance to these families.


The center of Tropical Storm Karding was located at 1,265 kilometers east of Basco, Batanes as of 3AM.

State weather bureau PAGASA do not expect it to make a landfall, but it will enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat affecting the country.

Cloudy skies with scattered rains are likely over Metro Manila, Ilocos Region, CAR, Central Luzon, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, Bicol Region and Western Visayas.
