NO PERMISSION | Paolo Duterte wants bail of Trillanes canceled for going ahead with trip abroad

JANUARY 17, 2019 — Former Davao City vice mayor and presidential son Paolo Duterte wants the court to cancel the temporary liberty of Sen. Antonio Trillanes.

Duterte said this is the senator’s consequence for violating the rules of court
when he flew to Europe last December for a series of activities without asking permission from the court.

A day before the trip, Trillanes posted bail of P96,000 at the Davao Regional Trial Court Branch 54 for the arrest warrant over the libel charges filed against him by Duterte.

The libel charges were over claims by Trillanes that linked the local executive to the illegal drug trade.

Duterte said Trillanes should have first appeared in court to ask for approval of his trip abroad.

However, Trillanes called Duterte’s claim as baseless, saying he had asked for court permission before his European trip.

Trillanes stressed that the Davao court was aware of his trip, saying that it declared him ‘not a filght risk’ two days after he left the country.

The decision followed another motion of Duterte to prohibit the senator from travelling abroad.

With these favorable decisions, Trillanes said he is confident that the libel charges against him will be eventually dismissed.
