February 10, 2019 – “Non-issue trying to be one is pathetic,” this is how Foreign Affairs Secretary Teodoro Locsin Jr. reacted to the incident involving a Chinese woman throwing a cup of sweet soya drink “taho” to a police officer at MRT Boni station last Saturday.

Locsin was responding to a netizen’s mentioned tweet that says “Paki-deport na po, pero pakisampal muna.”

“Aw c’mon. Let’s not be trivial. This can happen anywhere to anyone in any country. Aggression by taho? Defense by the same? Boy we really need arms deals to flesh out our sense of nationhood and sovereignty. This non-issue trying to be one is pathetic,” the foreign affairs secretary replied.

Eastern Police District identified the Chinese woman as
Jiale Zhang, a 23-year-old fashion design student.

Zhang is now under the police custody and facing criminal charges such as direct assault, disobedience to agent of person in authority, and unjust vexation.

Meanwhile, National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) Chief Guillermo Eleazar in a statement said that they recommended Zhang to be considered as “undesirable alien” and will be basis of the Bureau of Immigration to process her deportation.
