PIPE-DREAMING | Sison: Duterte “delusional” in latest remarks on rebel movement

(SEPTEMBER 19, 2018) – Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) founder Joma Sison said President Rodrigo Duterte is “delusional” for claiming that the war with the revolutionary movement will be over mid-next year.
In a Facebook post on Wednesday, the exiled Sison claimed Duterte is now the “target of people’s rising hatred.”
“He is taking too much of Fentanyl. Thus, he is pipe dreaming. He forgets that the campaigns of mass murder, mass intimidation, fake surrenders and fake encounters under Oplan Kapayapaan are angering the people and inciting them to íntensify their resistance,” Sison told.
Oplan Kapayapaan is the administration’s counter-insurgency plan adopted earlier this year.
Sison also said Duterte is more likely to be ousted from power than the possibility of him destroying the revolutionary movement.
Yesterday the President said the government is winning the war against communist insurgency, citing the increased number of surrenderees.
“I think we are winning the war finally. Maraming front sa Mindanao bumagsak na, especially on the right side,” he said. “And I think that kung maaawa ang Panginoong Diyos, this will be over by about the second quarter of next year.”
As of March, a total of 4,356 members and supporters of the New People’s Army, the military arm of the Communist Party of the Philippines, have surrendered based on records from the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
