WEALTH WATCH | Villar remains as richest senator based on 2017 SALN; Zubiri’s weath gets biggest gain

MANILA, Philippines (May 17, 2018) – Senator Cynthia Villar remains to be the richest senator in the country after copies of the senators’ statement of assets, liabilities and net worth or SALN for 2017 are released to members of the media this morning.

In 2017, Villar boasts a net worth of P3,611,260,766. She is richer by more than P5 million compared to her net worth in 2016.

Senator Manny Pacquiao also maintains his rank as second richest senator with a 2017 net worth of P2,946,315,029.93. However, the boxing senator lost a total of P126 million compared to his SALN a year ago with a net worth of P3,072,315,030.

In terms of biggest growth of wealth, Senator Juan Miguel Zubiri tops the list after increasing his net worth by more than P30 million in a year, giving him a total of P152,094,252.72 for 2017.

Senator Ralph Recto, the third richest senator, is the second biggest gainer after adding more than P16 million to his net worth that now totals to P538,889,914.15.

Included in the top five richest senators for 2017 is Senator Sonny Angara, who posts a net worth of P131,765,860 and an increase of P7.8 million from his 2016 SALN.

Two more senators get a seven-digit net worth raise: Senator Franklin Drilon with a net worth of P93,727,005 for 2017 and an increase of P11.2 million; and Senator Loren Legarda having P51,316,903.13 net worth and an increase of P10.4 million.

On the other hand, most of the five poorest senators are known members of the opposition.

They are Senators Risa Hontiveros with P16,196,665.71; Francis Pangilinan with P13,471,564.17; Francis Escudero with P8,502,082.09; Leila de Lima with P7,944,973.69; and Antonio Trillanes IV being the poorest senator for 2017 with P6,871,743.64.
