WHAT’S GOING ON? | Netizens question the massive construction in Boracay
1 week ago
MAY 16, 2018 – Netizens are questioning the construction in Barangay Yapak, Boracay when the goal is to rehabilitate the island.
In a video posted by Tourism Philippines on Facebook, a backhoe is seen doing construction work in the said area.
Based on the post, the area in the video used to be a forested mountain that was flattened because of the construction.
The video was allegedly taken on May 11, almost three weeks after the closure of Boracay.
During the six-month closure of the island, no construction is allowed except for minor renovations and upgrading of some establishments.

Environment Undersecretary Jonas Leones says, the DENR has monitored two construction sites reported on Facebook and has since addressed the issues.
“Our team found out isang buwan na tumigil sa pag-bulldozer, ang bulldozer nakadisassemble. ‘Yung picture na kumalat sa Eco-Village, luma na pics doon sa malapit sa Shangri-La. Our team informed me na titled at may ICC although our team advised to stop for the meantime. They thought since private land ‘yun, they can undertake earth movement. We told them na ihinto muna while we study permits and validate kung may title,” Leones said.
The DENR warned establishments about the ban on construction.
“Pupuntahan naman at kakasuhan at forest land they should not be there. They can’t do activities unless they secure permit from us,” Leones said.
The DENR encourages the public to report illegal activities in the area but appealed to verify information first.
