SEOUL — The Filipino fans are in for a treat as fast-rising K-Pop group BOYNEXTDOOR kicks off the Philippines’ historic hosting of the 2025 FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Championship as the headline performer of the opening ceremony on September 12 at Mall of Asia Arena.
The Philippine National Volleyball Federation and Asian Volleyball Confederation president Ramon ‘Tats’ Suzara led the groundbreaking announcement of the six-member K-pop group on Saturday at HYBE Headquarters.
SUNGHO, RIWOO, JAEHYUN, TAESAN, LEEHAN and WOONHAK are named as the Manila World Championship global celebrity ambassadors and will be adding spice with a dynamic performance to spike off the 32-nation FIVB tournament that features the host’s Alas Pilipinas men’s team.
“We have carefully reviewed and decided on the selection of BOYNEXTDOOR, as a truly pivotal move in elevating the global profile of volleyball and igniting excitement for the event,” said Suzara, also the FIVB Executive Vice President.
“With the championship proudly hosted in the Philippines, this partnership presents an incredible opportunity to engage fans across the world, with the BOYNEXTDOOR’s unique appeal and dynamic global influence to attract a wider and more diverse audience profile.”
The PNVF and Local Organizing Committee, led by co-chair Senator Alan Peter Cayetano, Presidential son William Vincent Araneta Marcos, and Department of Tourism secretary Christina Frasco, tapped a K-pop to perform in the World Championships for the first time, believing that BOYNEXTDOOR’s involvement and active participation will “encourage increased participation and viewership, both locally and internationally.”
“By unifying the worlds of sports and entertainment, and making these work together as one, we aim to spark greater interest in volleyball, promote cultural exchange, and boost local economy through tourism and international engagement,” Suzara said.
Neocolors Productions and Advertising Inc., headed by its CEO and LOC Sponsorship Manager Dr. Christine Daguno-Canoy, was tasked by PNVF in recruiting top-tier global celebrity ambassadors from Seoul for the World Championship.
The initial meeting with HYBE took place in October last year, leading to the historic act of the fast-rising K-pop group in the FIVB. “We are deeply grateful and profoundly honored for the trust placed in us by HYBE in making this collaboration into a reality,” said the PNVF and AVC head.
Members of the BOYNEXTDOOR, which made Manila one of its stops for their ‘KNOCK ON Vol. 1’ tour last month, expressed their excitement to serenade the Filipino fans, who have been very passionate about volleyball and K-pop.
BOYNEXTDOOR debuted under KOZ Entertainment in 2023 and emerged as the hottest new acts with its first extended play WHY.., debuting on the Billboard 200 chart and securing the no.1 spot on the Billboard Emerging Artists Chart.
With BOYNEXTDOOR promising to be the highlight of the historic and festive opening night, Alas Pilipinas also makes its historic debut in the World Championship for the first time in 51 years.
Alas opens its Pool A campaign against Tunisia, currently the World No. 40 and an 11-time African championship winner, followed by the electrifying act of BOYNEXTDOOR.
The Philippines also takes on World No. 15 Iran and World No. 20 Egypt in the group stage. The other Men’s World Championship preliminary games are also scheduled at Smart Araneta Coliseum from September 12 to 18.
The knockout stage will take place at MOA Arena from September 20 to 28, where Volleyball World continues to provide detailed reports, statistics, and analysis, and even an extensive social media contents.
