JUNE 13, 2025 — The Department of Transportation said on Friday that it has suspended the driver and the conductor of a bus where a person with disability was assaulted.
This comes after a video showing a PWD being hit repeatedly and allegedly electrocuted by a man made the rounds online.
According to the DOTr, the video was taken in June 9 on a bus traveling along the EDSA Carousel.
In an interview with Ted Failon & DJ Chacha, Transportation Secretary Vince Dizon said the bus was part of the fleet of Precious Grace Transport, one of the bus providers for the EDSA busway.
“Pinatawag po natin agad ‘yung Precious Grace at sinurrender po nila ‘yung driver mismo nung bus. Sinuspende na po natin ‘yung lisensya nung driver,” said Dizon.
Aside from the driver, Dizon added that the bus conductor had also been suspended.
Dizon stressed that the bus company, driver, and the conductor should be held accountable for the violence that happened inside their vehicle.
“Pag may nangyayaring ganyan, hindi pwedeng pikit-mata na lang sila at papabayaan itong mga pangyayaring ito. Dapat ito, ni-report kaagad sa ating mga SAICT doon sa ating busway,” Dizon said.
The DOTr said it is still in the middle of its investigation to identify the victim and the suspect and figure out the motive behind the assault.
The agency also reminded PUV drivers and operators to report similar incidents to proper authorities.
“Pag ang isang kababayan natin ay sumakay sa isang PUV (public utility vehicle), nagiging responsibilidad na po ng PUV na ‘yun ‘yung safety ng ating mga kababayan,” Dizon explained.
