(September 21, 2024) – The Presidential Communications Office (PCO) on Saturday said the recent findings of artificial intelligence (AI) experts from India regarding the so-called “polvoron video” only vindicated Pres. Bongbong Marcos Jr.
PCO chief Cesar Chavez warned the public to be wary of malicious videos and social media posts. He added that the government will stay vigilant against fake news, urging law enforcement agencies to bolster their campaign against false information.
“In today’s world of trolls, bots, and deepfake manipulation, it has become easy to throw mud at others,” said Chavez in a media release.

A report by a fact-checking coalition on Monday cited the report of Deepfakes Analysis Unit (DAU) regarding the deepfake video, which showed a man, who appears to be Marcos, sniffing drugs.
“This could be due to the tool detecting traces of manipulation, but it being too low to warrant a confident designation of manipulation from the tool itself,” said DAU.
Marcos simply shrugged off the deepfake video.
“In events of sudden/pronounced movements of the face, or in the event of the face being occluded by something opaque, the face swap visuals get interrupted, revealing bits and pieces of the original face that was superimposed using AI,” added DAU.
The “polvoron video” was released during a rally of supporters of former president Rodrigo Duterte in Los Angeles, California, a day before Marcos delivered his third State of the Nation Address last July 22.
It also came at the heels of the resignation of the Vice Pres. Sara Duterte-Carpio bolting from the UniTeam of Marcos.
The National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) and the Philippine National Police already debunked the deepfake video’s authenticity after their respective investigations.
The Department of Justice (DOJ), meanwhile, said it will trace the individuals behind the malicious video.
“With due process, we will see to it that the persons responsible will be held accountable for this malicious and dastardly act,” said DOJ undersecretary Jesse Hermogenes Andres.
