(November 24, 2024) – A progressive group on Sunday said it is looking into including the grave threats by Vice Pres. Sara Duterte-Carpio against Pres. Bongbong Marcos Jr. in its impeachment complaint against her.
During an online rant last Friday, Duterte-Carpio said she ordered an assassin to kill Marcos, first lady Liza Araneta-Marcos, and House Speaker Martin Romualdez if she is killed.
ACT Teachers’ Rep. France Castro confirmed that the impeachment case of the Makabayan bloc and Bagong Alyansang Makabayan (BAYAN) is in its final stages and is set to be filed before the year ends.
“Hinog na hinog na talaga ‘yung impeachment complaint. Tingnan natin sa mga susunod na araw ang magiging desisyon ng people’s organizations,” said Castro.

In September, BAYAN announced that it is seeking Duterte-Carpio’s impeachment for her alleged misuse of confidential funds of the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education worth over P610 million combined.
Duterte-Carpio has refused to answer questions regarding the confidential funds. She also quarreled with lawmakers, including Castro, and snubbed the hearings.
Echoing the progressive groups, former senator Leila de Lima stressed that Duterte-Carpio may also face other charges for her “gross misconduct,” including grave threats, illegal utterances, and cyberlibel.
“I find it disturbing and concerning kasi I don’t think it ever happened before that a very high public official, the second-highest official of the country, of our land, would verbally attack the president, the first lady, and the speaker,” said De Lima in a media forum.
De Lima was previously imprisoned for seven years under the heavy-handed rule of Duterte-Carpio’s father, former president Rodrigo Duterte, due to drug-related charges. But witnesses retracted their testimonies, saying they were only coerced to implicate De Lima, who was a staunch critic of Duterte.
She was eventually acquitted of all charges.
Meanwhile, Atty. Egon Cayosa, the former president of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines, warned Duterte-Carpio of possible disbarment for her conduct.
