(May 26, 2026) — Sen. Bong Revilla will file cyber libel complaints against several individuals and groups who allegedly spread fake news and defamatory content targeting him during his 2025 senatorial campaign.
Revilla, who ranked 14th in the recent senatorial race after once placing second in preference surveys, believes the online attacks were “orchestrated” and significantly damaged his reputation.
“I’m not that depressed. I’m sad, nalungkot ako sa nangyari dahil nabiktima tayo ng fake news at napaniwala nila ‘yung ibang tao,” Revilla said in an interview with News5.
“Hindi naman tayo onion skin eh marami na ako pinagdaanan sa public service talagang matindi. Lahat na siguro pinagdaanan ko na eh,” he emphasized.
Revilla stressed that this is a personal move, made without coordination with Alyansa para sa Bagong Pilipinas, and a step to prevent similar attacks in the future. He also firmly believes that the scheme was orchestrated aiming to hinder his campaign for the next term as senator.
“Sabi ko nga eh we just have to do something, siguro mag-file nga talaga ng case against those people na dapat managot tungkol dito,” Revilla said.
“Para rin sa mga kabataan ngayon which is alam naman natin na maraming mga kabataan na bumuboto na hindi nila alam ‘yung mga nangyari in the past years,” he said, adding that he aims to hold those responsible accountable— not just for himself but to protect future voters, especially the youth.
According to his legal counsel, Atty. Raymond Fortun, Revilla is preparing to file five to ten cyber libel cases against individuals and groups who allegedly published false information online.
Among the posts flagged were misleading claims about Revilla’s past plunder case, which was eventually dismissed by the Sandiganbayan, and fabricated quotes regarding the death penalty.
Some of the posts even cited a supposed document stating Revilla must return P124 million even after being acquitted.
Fortun also denied any involvement from the Duterte camp, emphasizing that initial findings point elsewhere.
“Usually, akala natin laban ng Marcs at Duterte, hindi po… these appears to be somebody else’s move,” Atty. Fortun said.
As for a possible 2028 run, Revilla said he is uncertain: “I have to consult my family—and myself.”
