(June 16, 2025) – House Speaker Martin Romualdez slammed the fatal shooting of a House of Representatives official, calling for a probe into what he described as a “heinous crime.”
Romualdez remembered Director Mauricio Pulhin as a “dedicated public servant” whose professionalism and integrity earned the respect of his colleagues in the lower chamber.
“We condemn this brutal act of violence in the strongest possible terms,” he said in a media release on Sunday.
“This crime must not go unanswered. Justice must prevail.”
On Sunday, Pulhin, who served as chief of technical staff of the committee was gunned down by a riding-in-tandem in a subdivision in Quezon City.

Moreover, outgoing Albay Rep. Joey Salceda echoed Romuladez’s sentiment, sharing his condolences to the Pulhin family.
“Director Pulhin’s murder was shocking in its brazenness; he was shot in front of his family, in his gated neighborhood,” said Salceda in a statement.
“This heinous act must be condemned and its perpetrators brought to justice at once,” he added.
Further details regarding the killing are yet to be released regarding the possible motives related to his work in the House of Representatives.
Romualdez called on the Philippine National Police and the National Bureau of Investigation, among law enforcement agencies, to pursue a “thorough, impartial, and swift investigation.”
“All angles must be pursued—including, but not limited to, his professional affiliations—so that the truth may come out and justice may be served,” Romualdez concluded.
