AFTER DORMITORIO’S DEATH | PMA cadet corps commander resigns
October 10, 2019 , 12:51 PM

OCTOBER 10, 2019 – Citing command responsibility, the Philippine Military Academy’s (PMA) Cadet Corps commander resigned on Wednesday in connection with the hazing and death of Fourth Class Cadet Darwin Dormitorio.

“Cadet First Class Ram Navarro has relinquished his position as the Brigade Commander of the Corps to allow a fresh start for Cadet First Class Marion Cordova to initiate reforms,” the military’s leading educational institution said in a statement.

Navarro stepped down in adherance to the advice of new PMA Superintendent Rear Admiral Allan Cusi “for the Corps to be warriors with a heart and soul.”

Prior to this, PMA Superintendent Lt. Gen. Ronnie Evangelista tendered his resignation to Armed Forces of the Philippines chief of staff Gen. Benjamin Madrigal, Jr. to take full responsibility over the Dormitorio incident.

The 20-year-old cadet was found unconscious inside his room on September 18 and reportedly complained of stomach pain while inside the academy.

His body showed signs of blunt force trauma that resulted in internal hemorrhage, the medico legal team of the Baguio Philippine National Police earlier said.
