(July 22, 2021) – A tricycle driver in Caloocan is being hunted down after stabbing to death his neighbor over a parking issue on Tuesday evening.
Junel Talan, a 20-year-old criminology student, died from stab wounds after Matias Avenido Jr. found difficulty bringing his tricycle into the compound due to a parked motorcycle.
Avenido, who was allegedly drunk, thought it was owned by Talan, prompting him to attack him. But Talan’s sibling, who got wounded in the incident, denied the motorcycle was theirs. The sibling requested anonymity due to security issues.
“Pagbungad kong ganon, sabi ko, ‘Bakit, anong problema?’
Talan came to his sibling’s defense, along with his elder brother and their aunt who tried to strangle Avenido. His brother also suffered injuries on his mouth while their aunt’s finger was bitten by the suspect.
Talan’s sibling said Avenido has frequently acted “like a king” in their neighborhood, pointing out his reckless acts each time he comes home to their area. While the siblings and their aunt tried to attack the suspect, it was not enough to save Talan’s life.
Caloocan Police Major Dennis Odtuhan, the substation commander, said they have already sealed copies of the CCTV videos that caught the brutal incident.
Initial probe conducted by law enforcers revealed that the rift between the suspect and Talan’s family was not new based on barangay’s records, according to Odtuhan.
It’s still unclear what criminal charges will be filed but police officers have stepped up their efforts to locate Avenido. Talan’s family has also called on the law enforcers to fast-track their investigation to mete out justice for the victim.
