BUY-BUST I 2 Chinese nationals arrested for peddling ‘COVID-19 cure’
May 22, 2020 , 10:30 PM

May 22, 2020 – Two Chinese nationals were arrested by the police in Bacoor, Cavite for selling capsules branded as a cure for COVID-19.

The police seized from the warehouse 27 boxes containing 400 packs of the Chinese herbal capsule, which has not been cleared by the Food and Drug Administration.

Colonel Vicente Cabatingan, chief of the Bacoor police, said the suspects will be charged for violating Republic Act 9711, known as the Food and Drug Administration Act of 2009.

The arrested suspects were identified as Lingjie Zhao and Zhixing Chen, who reportedly served as the caretaker and financier of the warehouse.

Cabatingan said they worked on the case for three weeks before the buy bust.

Nalula tayo sa presyo dahil kulang-kulang P10 million pagkakasabi,” Cabatingan said.

Authorities suspect the capsules may have a similar source from similarly packaged products confiscated recently in Baclaran, Paranaque.

The suspects said they were just giving the products for free.

The business permit of the suspects showed they were simply selling dishwashing liquid. (JBS)
