(June 5, 2025) – Carlos Yulo on Thursday secured a podium finish in his first competition after being out of action for 10 months since making history in the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The Leveriza native bagged the bronze medal in the men’s individual all-around event in the 2025 Artistic Gymnastics Asian Championships in Jecheon, South Korea.
While Yulo failed to defend the all-around title he captured in Uzbekistan last year, he gave the Philippines its first medal in the continental meet.
He collected a total of 83.633 points from the six apparatuses to finish behind Japanese gymnasts Oka Shinnosuke and Hasegawa Tsuyoshi, who bagged the gold and silver, respectively.
Oka, the reigning Olympic all-around champion, garnered 85.134 points, while Hasegawa settled for second place with 83.967 points.
On the brighter side, Yulo advanced to the eight-man finals of floor exercise, vault, parallel bars, still rings, and horizontal bar.
The two-time Olympic gold medalist topped the floor exercise with 14.433 points and finished second in the vault with 14.400 points. Last year, he brought home gold for the Philippines in these two events during the Olympics.
Yulo was the first Filipino athlete to win two gold medals in a quadrennial meet.

He, meanwhile, finished fourth in parallel bars with 14.167 points, seventh in still rings with 13.633 points, and 10th in horizontal bar with 13.800 points to reach the medal round of each apparatus.
The 25-year-old dynamo barged into the horizontal bar finals by virtue of the two-per-country rule with four Japanese bets placing in the top eight in the qualifiers.
John Ivan Cruz, Yulo’s teammate, will join him in the vault finals medal after landing seventh with 13.533 points in the qualifying round.
Yulo could retain his crowns in the floor exercise, still rings, and parallel bars, while vying for a first-ever medal in the horizontal bar in the Asian tilt over the weekend.
