(October 22, 2024) – Making his much-anticipated return, K-pop star Park Chanyeol surprised fans with a cover of Lola Amour’s “Raining in Manila” and rocked The Big Dome with EXO’s greatest hits during his “City-scape” tour last October 19.
“I guess all of you thought I was gonna sing ‘Hawak Kamay.’ Sorry… no more [Yeng Constantino’s song],” the “Hawak Kamay” king teased Pinoy EXO-Ls.
With the fans’ request, Chanyeol of the K-pop boy group EXO once again owned the “Raining in Manila” song and jammed along with them.
“It’s actually my first time listening to this song, as I prepared for this tour, and I really liked it,” he shared.
Presented by PULP Live World, he further electrified the Araneta Coliseum with EXO’s hit songs “Lotto,” “Tempo,” “Monster,” “Obsession,” “Growl,” and “Hear Me Out.”
Moved by the warm welcome from Filipino fans, the 31-year-old star expressed, “Long time no see! I’m Chanyeol. Good to see you again. [Are] you guys having fun? Na-miss ko kayo!”
Chanyeol shared that he had arrived in the Philippines a few days prior to the concert to soak in the local culture and taste one of his favorite treats— mangoes.
Inspired by Chanyeol, the “Cherry Prince” himself, most EXO-Ls came dressed in stylish black and red outfits, carrying clover-shaped banners and waving their glowing “Eribongs” (EXO’s official lightstick).
Loud cheers echoed through The Big Dome as Chanyeol heated up the stage with his opening performances of “Back Again” and “Good Enough.”
He further introduced himself with a guitar medley of rock classics like “Sweet Child O’ Mine” by Guns N’ Roses, which had fans singing the chorus, much to his surprise, “You guys are singing already!”
As many Pinoy EXO-Ls joked, “laking ‘Guitar Hero’ ata ‘to!” Chanyeol continued his rock streak with parts of “Hotel California” by the Eagles and Green Day’s “Basket Case.”
The K-pop star further led a beautiful singalong with a 2016 track “Stay With Me,” from the popular K-drama Goblin. Chanyeol couldn’t help but praise EXO-Ls’ voices, mouthing “wow” as fans took over the verses.
He continued the show with performances of fan-favorite songs “Minimal Warm,” “Yours,” and “Tomorrow.” His setlist also included EXO-SC hits like “Telephone” and “Just Us 2,” and the energy remained high as he grooved through “Hasta La Vista” and “Ease Up.”
Before performing his song “Clover,” he even taught Pinoy EXO-Ls the dance steps, creating an interactive moment with the audience.
“You guys are actually my only four-leaf clovers, alam niyo ‘yon ‘di ba?” he expressed.
The show proceeded to a special “Manila City-scape” segment, with Chanyeol sharing stories behind the photos displayed on the screen while wearing pieces from a local fashion brand he represents as a brand ambassador.
As the “City-Scape” live tour drew to a close, Chanyeol performed “Black Out” and “SSFW,” and “I’m On Your Side Too.”
“You know, because of you guys, every process and up until right now, I had so much fun. So next time, I’ll come back to the Philippines, and I will prepare a new song,” he said.
While Chanyeol was backstage preparing for his next performances, the crowd serenaded him with “Tomorrow” and parts of “Hawak Kamay.”
As the encore began, Chanyeol delivered the “Just as Usual” and “Hasta La Vista” performances, leaving the stage with a promise to return whenever his Filipino fans called for him.
“Did you guys make a lot of happy memories? Me too. Actually, I’m going back to Korea tonight, and I really don’t want to go home. But, of course, if you guys call me back, I’ll fly anytime to be here, anytime.”
Towards the end of the show, fans couldn’t help but laugh at his effortlessly cute side. After snapping photos with his band and dancers, he realized he had forgotten to take a solo photo-op with the fans. The ‘baby giant,’ as fans affectionately call him, prompted laughter throughout the Araneta Coliseum as he politely asked, “You guys have to take a photo of me. Where are you…photographer? Please, I’m sorry, my mistake.”
“Today, I was really, really happy. May you have a very good night’s rest, eat a lot of yummy food, and take good care of yourselves. I will also take care of myself,” Chanyeol reminded the fans.
“Don’t feel so bad because I’m always gonna be ready to come back anytime with more better music,” he promised.
As he bid farewell, concluding his “City-Scape” live tour in Manila, Chanyeol shared another unforgettable moment for EXO-Ls as they united and chanted the iconic, “We are one. EXO Saranghaja!”
