(March 14, 2025) – Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III, the director of the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG), on Thursday stated that he is prepared to face any legal action following the arrest of former president Rodrigo Duterte.
This was after Duterte allegedly threatened to file a case against Torre, who led the capture of the former leader on Tuesday after the International Criminal Court (ICC) coursed its arrest warrant through the International Criminal Police Organization.
“Direct threat talaga ang sinabi niya (Duterte),” said Torre on One News’ The Big Story. “(Sabi ni Duterte), I will be sued by his children and his other family members. So, okay lang, it’s not a problem. I just listened to him and told him, ‘Yes, sir, I do understand that. I’m fully aware of that.'”
He added that Duterte’s family and legal team delayed the process by 12 hours before the former president was finally flown to the ICC.
Torre recounted how Duterte eventually agreed to board the plane after the CIDG arrested former executive secretary Salvador Medialdea and ordered Duterte’s legal counsel, Atty. Antonio Delgra, to leave.
“Pagkatapos, pinahawi ko na ‘yung asawa at anak (ni Duterte). Nag-soften si president Duterte dahil nakita niya na seryoso na ang sitwasyon,” added Torre, who was also instrumental in the capture of Duterte’s close ally, self-styled pastor Apollo Quiboloy last September.
Torre maintained that while he is ready for any legal consequence, he said the nabbing of Duterte was merely a compliance to the arrest warrant.
“Threatening somebody is a different thing. Making good of the threat is another thing. So, I’ll just wait for it kung may gagawin nga sila (Duterte family). I’ll just answer it,” said Torre.
Duterte’s pre-trial hearing in the ICC is set for tonight. He is facing allegations of crimes against humanity during his brutal war on drugs.
