(June 18, 2020) – The transportation department has added three more bus routes in the capital as more workers were allowed to return to work, but provincial bus routes remained suspended, an official said on Thursday.
Starting on Friday, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) said will allow commuter buses to ply three routes as more workers return to work under a general community quarantine.
These routes are:
LTFRB has already opened 27 out of 31 planned bus routes in Metro Manila to help commuters.
The LTFRB is also planning to make 26 bus stops along EDSA. Four are already in place, in addition to the seven MRT stops, according to a Department of Transportation (DOTr) consultant.
Bert Suansing, the DOTr senior consultant for the road sector, said there was still danger of spreading infections.
“Yung pagpayag ng LGU (local government unit) sa kanilang lugar ay kailangan mangyari,” Suansing said in the virtual Laging Handa briefing on Thursday.
“Hangga’t di mangyayari, in coordination with DILG (Department of Interior and Local Government), provincial bus operations will continue to be suspended.”
Drivers of traditional jeepneys would also have to wait even longer, as only modern Public Utility Vehicles (PUVs) will be allowed back on the road starting June 22.
“LTFRB may allow traditional jeepneys to operate if they are road worthy,” Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque added.
Aside from P2P buses and shuttles, almost 40,000 taxis and transport network vehicle services (TNVS) have resumed operations since the start of June, according to the LTFRB. (Katrina Elaine Alba/MM)
