(September 9, 2022) – President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. on Friday paid tribute to Queen Elizabeth II, Britain’s longest-serving monarch who passed away on Thursday at the age of 96, lauding her “great dignity” and “commitment to duty.”
Based on photos shared by Marcos and the British Ambassador to the Philippines, Laure Beufils, and posted on social media accounts, the president personally visited the ambassador’s residence to sign in the book of condolences on Queen Elizabeth’s death.
Marcos Jr. was accompanied by his wife Liza Araneta-Marcos, and son, Ilocos Norte Congressman Sandro Marcos.

“It is with profound sadness that we receive the news of the passing of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in Balmoral Castle yesterday evening,” Marcos said in a statement.
“She exemplified to the world a true monarch’s great dignity, commitment to duty, and devotion to all those in her realm… We, together with many Filipinos living and working in England, though not subjects of the Queen, have found ourselves having developed a great sense of affection for her as a Queen, as mother, and as a grandmother.”
Buckingham Palace, the residence of the royal family of Britain, on Thursday announced the death of Queen Elizabeth after her 70-years long reign. Her office did not specify a cause.
Her eldest son, Charles will succeed her throne. He will be known as Charles III.
Ascending to the throne in 1952 and crowned a year later, Elizabeth’s reign saw dramatic political, social, and cultural change in the country such as the weakening of the British empire, decline of the aristocracy, and the country’s exit from the European Union in 2020.
The Philippine Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Teodoro Locsin Jr., also extended his “deepest humble condolences” to the royal family.
“There she was in the thick of it; not losing her poise even in the worse crises of Great Britain; from the hardship and rancor of postwar recovery, the blowback of Suez, the nativity of new nations from the womb of Empire; the flash triumph of the Falklands; through personal tragedies with the deepest loss of Philip,” Locsin said.
The United Kingdom has yet to announce when the funeral would be held, but it is expected to take place 11 days after her death.
