MAY 15, 2019 — The World Street Food Congress (WSFC) 2019 Philippines, which was initially set to take place in Bonifacio Global City, has been called off for the second year in a row.
In a post on Facebook, organizers deemed the Department of Tourism (DOT) and Tourism Promotion Board’s (TBP) decision to cancel the event “disturbing and disappointing.”
“No reason nor rhyme was given and this, was after 6 months of legwork the WSFC did in curating and accommodating the TPB and DOT ideals for the event,” said the WSFC in the post.
WSFC organizers said they have invited chefs, cooks, street food professionals, and vendors from 14 countries as well as international speakers and prominent players in the business to be featured in the event.
“This in unbecoming of the TPB and DOT, but we doubt this is personal as we have a good working relationship with the ground team,” said WSFC.
Organizers extended their apologies to local and international food fans, sponsors, partners and entrepreneurs who have placed interest in the event.
However, the organizers said they will go back to the drawing table and press on to deliver the WSFC in the Philippines.
