(February 23, 2022) – The founder of Partido Federal ng Pilipinas (PFP) on Tuesday said some people committed “grave injustice” that pushed him out of the political party he started in 2018.
Senatorial candidate John Castriciones, who’s now running under Partido Demokratiko Pilipino-Lakas ng Bayan in the 2022 elections, said some individuals changed the officials of the PFP without him knowing, even if he was the president and interim chairperson. Castriciones said his appointment was approved in a 2019 assembly.
“We found out that the resolution that needs to be submitted to the Comelec (Commission on Elections) based on the agreement in that assembly was not actually followed,” said Castriciones on One News’ The Chiefs. “They were already changing the officials left and right until we found out that we already lost the party.”
Since last October, the PFP is being chaired by presidential candidate Bongbong Marcos Jr. The son of the late dictator was with the Nacionalista Party since 2009 before suddenly jumping ship to PFP. South Cotabato Gov. Reynaldo Tamayo Jr. now serves as president of PFP.
Abubakar Mangelen, who claimed to be a former chairperson of PFP, sought to nullify Marcos’ certificate of nomination and acceptance from the party. Mangelen also wanted Marcos to be disqualified from his candidacy but the Comelec already junked his petition. It’s currently on appeal.
“The matter of (endorsement) by some officers of PFP came as a big shock and surprise to petitioner,” wrote Mangelen in December. “Party officers from Lanao del Norte and other areas who were not consulted nor notified of any meeting or convention complained of their replacement as such officers without due process.”
Castriciones, a former secretary of the Department of Agrarian Reform, said the PFP was supposed to be chaired by President Rodrigo Duterte but they were told not to get too involved in politics. He founded the PFP with the Mayor Rodrigo Roa Duterte-National Executive Coordinating Committee (MRRD-NECC).
Castriciones said they had to delegate some of their responsibilities to other members of PFP in a temporary capacity back then. Despite his exit, he said he remains true to his advocacy of pushing for federalism—a major political shift that Duterte wanted but ultimately failed to institute under his term.
“It’s a bit disheartening to find out that the party was actually taken away from us and because of that, we feel that there is really grave injustice that was committed against our organization,” lamented Castriciones.
Last Saturday, the MRRD-NECC endorsed Manila Mayor Isko Moreno as their presidential bet because of his “loyalty to public service.” Castriciones, at the event, also claimed that Duterte might also endorse Moreno but the departing leader has largely kept mum about his pick. Castriciones said they would respect whoever Duterte chooses.
Duterte’s daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio, is the running mate of Marcos.
