SEPTEMBER 20, 2019 – President Rodrigo Duterte has chosen Lt. Gen. Noel Clement as the new AFP chief of staff, Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana confirmed.
Clement will replace outgoing Armed Forces of the Philippines chief Gen. Benjamin Madrigal, Jr. who is retiring on September 24.
“According to advance information from the Palace – Lt. Gen. Noel Clement. [I] am awaiting his designation documents from Malacañang,” Lorenzana said in a text message on Thursday.
Duterte picked Clement from a shortlist of 3-star generals submitted by the AFP Board of Generals to the Department of National Defense and Malacañang.
Clement is currently the commanding general of AFP the Central Command in Visayas. He also served in the Philippine Army’s 10th Infantry Division in Davao Region.
He is a member of the PMA Sandiwa class of 1985 and holds a Masters’ degree in Public Administration. (With reports from Pat Mangune)
