Employment, food security, top concerns for majority of Filipino voters ahead of 2025 elections

(February 1, 2025) – A recent Social Weather Stations (SWS) survey commissioned by Stratbase Consultancy found that increasing job opportunities and food security were the top concerns of Filipino voters ahead of the May 2025 elections.

Among the listed concerns, job creation, agriculture, and ensuring food security emerged as the most influential factors in voter preference, receiving a total of 94% of the votes.

The survey, conducted on January 17, gathered the opinions of 1,800 registered voters nationwide, including 900 from Balance Luzon, 300 from the Visayas, and 300 from Mindanao.

Other key issues that ranked high in voter consideration include the healthcare system, education, and ensuring the rights of workers and overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), which all garnered votes above 90%.

Moreover, reducing poverty and hunger, addressing the impacts of climate change, and controlling inflation were also among the significant concerns.

Anti-drug initiatives also are also on the list, alongside the implementation of electoral reforms and the fight against corruption. Many respondents underscored the importance of dismantling political dynasties and upholding transparency in governance as essential steps toward restoring public trust in the political system.

The survey also highlighted growing support for the legalization of divorce, an issue that has gained traction in recent years.

Many of the issues and advocacies promised by candidates in the 2022 and previous elections remain largely the same, yet continue to be persistent problems for many Filipinos, particularly those in marginalized sectors.
