EXCESS PENSION RETRIEVED | PVAO gets back bulk of overpaid pension to dead veterans
June 12, 2019 , 05:25 PM

JUNE 12, 2019 — The Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO) said on Wednesday it has retrieved most of the excess pension it has paid out to deceased veterans.

Out of the P70 million handed out, the PVAO now holds P60 million in pension from its beneficiares who already passed away last year.

In responding to the report by the Commission on Audit on ghost pensioners, PVAO said it only overlooked its list because of its older and slower verification process,

“Ibig sabilhin ang payroll ay halimbawa ginawa noong Hunyo pero ang namatay ay last month or last week kaya andon na pa yung pangalan ng kamamatay sa payroll,” PVAO Undersecretary Ernesto Carolina said.

But he stressed that is no longer a problem: “Dati nababayaran ang patay dahil ang pensyon tsek pero ngayon imposible na iyan dahil 100% ng pensyonado sa bangko na kumukuha ng pension.”

To help identify dead pensioners immediately, PVAO said it also already tapped the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

“Nagbabayad kami ng P49,000 sa PSA para kung meron namatay for the month ay mabibigyan kami ng death certificate. Ang death list ang kinukumpara namin sa payroll,” Carolina said.
