(May 19, 2022) – A Twitter account claimed in a post that Vice President Leni Robredo’s Angat Buhay Foundation is an organization built to overthrow the incoming administration of presumptive president Bongbong Marcos Jr. and “introduce a new government.”
This claim is fake.
CLAIM:
A tweet sent out by the Twitter account “Angat Buhay New Government” showed a quote card with the title, “Mga Saad ni Leni.”
It added a supposed quote from Robredo, saying “Hindi pa tapos ang laban. Magkikita kita tayo muli sa EDSA para patalsikin ang mga magnanakaw at sinungaling na niluklok ng 31m disinformed na Pilipino.”
The caption, meanwhile, wrote, “Mai aangat natin muli ang buhay ng bawat Pilipino” and added the hashtags #Angatbuhay, #AngatBuhay NGO, #AngatBuhayLahat.
RATING: FAKE
FACTS:
The official Facebook page of Robredo has already refuted the claim as fake, stressing that the said Twitter account is not connected with the opposition leader or with the Office of the Vice President (OVP).
“Wala pong katotohanan ang mga lumalabas sa account na ito, na ang malinaw na layunin ay manlinlang at magpakalat ng maling impormasyon,” read the post.
It reminded the official announcements regarding the Angat Buhay Foundation, a non-government organization (NGO) that will be launched in July, can only come from Robredo’s official Facebook page.
“Maging mapanuri at huwag basta maniniwala sa mga haka-haka, mga kuwento o unverified information na nakikita online,” added the post.
The fake Twitter account has already been deleted.
The Angat Buhay Foundation is an expansion of the OVP’s Angat Buhay program, which has helped many marginalized sectors in different parts of the country since it was launched in October 2016. It has garnered huge donations from private entities and volunteer groups.
According to the OVP, as of last December, the Angat Buhay program has partnered with 372 organizations, mobilizing around P520 million worth of resources and helping more than 321,000 families and 305,000 individuals in 223 communities.
Robredo said the Angat Buhay Foundation will reach out to even more poor sectors and build on the momentum from her presidential campaign.
“Unang araw ng Hulyo, ilulunsad ang Angat Buhay NGO. Bubuuin ang pinakamalawak na volunteer center sa kasaysayan ng bansa,” said Robredo in her thanksgiving event last Friday. “Pero hindi tayo mamimili ng tutulungan. Wala tayong tatalikuran. Ipapakita natin ang buong pwersa ng radikal na pagmamahal.”
She has also stated that democracy should be respected even though she lost in her presidential bid by a wide margin. She even recently said the OVP is already preparing the official transition to presumptive vice president Sara Duterte-Carpio.
“Alam kong mahal natin ang bansa, pero hindi puwedeng maging ugat pa ng pagkakawatak-watak ang pagmamahal na ito,” said Robredo in her message to her supporters during a Facebook live last May 10.
WHY THIS MATTERS:
A study by Tsek.PH, an independent fact-checking network, has found Robredo to be the biggest victim of disinformation on social media while Marcos has benefited the most.
Even though she already lost to the son of the late dictator, false information attacking Robredo continues to proliferate online.
