(September 14, 2022) – Vice President Sara Duterte-Carpio does not use a government chopper daily but only when her official function demands it, her spokesperson claimed on Wednesday.
Atty. Reynold Munsayac shut down claims that his boss regularly uses the presidential chopper to reach Davao City, noting that Duterte-Carpio and her family already moved to Manila because of her work at the Office of the Vice President and the Department of Education.
“Fake news ‘yan na araw-araw na gumagamit ng chopper (si Duterte-Carpio) para ihatid sa Davao,” said Munsayac in an interview with reporters. “Ginagamit lang ang chopper kapag kailangan sa official work and functions based sa lugar na pupuntahan at sa urgency of schedule.”

On Tuesday, Duterte-Carpio took to social media to greet President Bongbong Marcos Jr. for his 65th birthday. She thanked Marcos for letting her use the 250th Presidential Airlift Wing of the Philippine Air Force (PAF) to bring her home “in time to tuck (her) children to bed.”
“Thank you for putting a premium on the desire of a working mother to be present in her children’s lives. I wish God’s favor upon you as you celebrate your birthday and pray that you are given the strength and wisdom for the difficult road ahead,” said Duterte-Carpio in the post.
But many netizens raised concerns over the seemingly unnecessary use of a publicly funded aircraft at a time when people are struggling with their finances. Instead of saluting Marcos, they urged Duterte-Carpio to thank the public whose taxes are used for the operation of the PAF chopper.
Some compared Duterte-Carpio’s convenient situation to the plight of commuters who need to spend hours lining up for public transportation daily. Others also recalled the case of a mother who died at the height of the COVID-19 lockdown two years ago while waiting for a bus to her home in Camarines Sur.
Imagine commuting for HOURS, suffering amidst heavy traffic, all because of inefficient public transportation system. And there goes Sara Duterte with her private chopper, using the nation’s money.
Binoto mo man o hindi sa Dutere, kapag hindi ka pa galit, may problema na talaga.

I love how Sara Duterte took advantage of her position and thanked BBM for allowing her to use the chopper but not the taxpayers ? literally Sara and her kids are united as one ??

Ayus.

Average operating cost: US$ 2,193 per hour or P125,000 kada oras. Tama nga, mayaman ang Pilipinas. Di nga lang mga mamamayan ang nakikinabang. pic.twitter.com/aIfme5qbFS

But amid the criticisms, Munsayac stressed that Duterte-Carpio responsibly uses government resources, lamenting the information being spread against her even though she was the one who revealed that she uses the government chopper “wherever (she) may be found in the country during the day.”
“Lahat ng nakakakilala kay VP, ‘yung history ng public service niya, alam na napaka-efficient niya and she will be the last person to waste government resources,” said Munsayac.
Duterte-Carpio has yet to comment on the latest issue.
“‘Yung fake news na ‘yan ay kakaiba, nakakalungkot. Ngayon, kapag mayroong nakadiskubre na chopper na kayang lumipad ng Manila papuntang Davao eh makikisakay po ako,” said Munsayac.
