JUNE 20, 2019 — Actor Eduardo “Eddie” Garcia has passed away at 4:55 p.m. on Monday. He was 90 years old.

The Makati Medical Center, the hospital where the actor was rushed to, released a medical bulletin announcing the actor’s death.

Garcia fell into a coma after suffering a cervical fracture following an on-set accident while taping for a TV show last June 8.

The actor initially wanted to join the U.S. Army but instead pursued a career in entertainment, a career that would last almost seven decades.

Aside from starring in hundreds of films and television shows, Garcia also became a renowned director in the industry.

Most recently, Garcia won “Best Actor” in the Gawad Urian 2019 for the film “ML.”

Heartfelt messages from friends and fans have poured in upon learning of the actor’s passing.

Several celebrities have extended their condolences and said that Garcia’s presence in the industry will be missed.

I just saw this…My dear God, it is so hard to accept this…I love you, my Direk, my Tito Eddie…Thank you for all that you gave me, us…It is truly the end of an era. Walang sinuman sa showbiz ngayon o kahit sa mga ipanganganak pa ang puedeng umupo sa tronong iniwan ninyo…Mahal na mahal ko po kayo…May you rest in God’s arms and we, those who have had the privilege of working with you, shall remember all that you stand for, and do our best to keep your legacy alive, because you have made us all a part of it…💔💔💔 My heart is broken…
