(April 30, 2021) – Two houseworkers cried for help to police officers after allegedly getting beaten up by their boss and his family repeatedly in their home in Brgy. BF Homes, Parañaque.
Juan Vanguardia, 37, managed to escape from his employers to file the complaint. When the police officers found him, he had several wounds and bruises. Vanguardia said the suspects even took videos while physically abusing him and his fellow houseworker Venzar Delos Reyes.
“Pinagpapalo ako ng martilyo sa ulo. May mga bukol pa ako sa ulo dito sa likod. Tapos hinampas ako ng sinturon, sabay gusto nila putulin ang dila ko para hindi raw ako makapagsalita,” said Vanguardia.
After swiftly conducting a rescue operation following Vanguardia’s report, police officers saved Delos Reyes.
“Mga isang buwan na akong binubugbog. ’Yung charger sinakal sa akin, pinulupot sa leeg ko tapos kina-cutter nila ako, tapos pinupukpok nila sa akin pliers, tapos pinagsusuntok nila akong dalawang mag-ama,” said Delos Reyes.
Their boss was identified as Ethan Besas, a 49-year-old businessman.
It remains unclear, however, why Besas and his family continually beat up Vanguardia and Delos Reyes, who have been working for six months as window installers and doing other household work. They said they were encouraged to take the stay-in job after being promised good pay and lodging.
Delos Reyes, 22, said Besas was also fond of taking videos while they were inside the vehicle and other family members would beat them up.
Vanguardia said they tried to escape last Tuesday but got caught. They were then brought to the police precinct to strike fear into them.
“N-report siya ng amo niya na nagnakaw. Inaresto namin siya. Maya-maya dumating ‘yung amo nila, sabi ‘Hindi na, patatawarin ko na’. Ang usapan namin pauwiin na sila. ‘Yun pala kinulong na sila doon, sinasaktan na sila, binubugbog,” said BF Homes police commander Maj. Melvin Florida.
Besas, along with his son Mariano Besas, were arrested for physical assault. Besas’ wife was also picked up for taking videos while her husband and son beat up the victims. Michael Aguis, the family driver, was also arrested for being the lookout.
Besas, however, denied the allegations of Vanguardia and Delos Reyes.
“Hindi ako makukunsensya kasi wala akong ginawa,” said Besas.
Beses and his family will be charged for serious illegal detention and physical injury. Authorities also called on those who were also abused and tortured by the suspects to file a case against them.
