(October 21, 2024) – The House quad-committee on Monday recommended to the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) to lodge civil forfeiture suits as the panel handed over to state lawyers several documents related to Philippine offshore gaming operators (POGOs).
In a letter to Solicitor General Menardo Guevarra, the panel formally endorsed 13 documents related to cases against Chinese nationals who were accused of faking their Filipino citizenship to secure lands and open businesses in the Philippines.
This includes the birth and marriage documents of a certain Aedy Tai Yang, as well as corporate records linked to him.
“Given the severe national security implications and the clear violations of legal processes, we strongly recommend that your office expedite the review of these documents and initiate all necessary legal actions, including civil forfeiture proceedings, in coordination with the relevant agencies,” the letter read.
The quad-committee also suggested to the OSG to coordinate with the Departments of Justice, Finance, Foreign Affairs, and Agrarian Reform, as well as the Philippine Statistics Authority, while conducting the review.
“We trust that your office will treat this matter with the urgency it demands and act swiftly to protect the integrity of the nation’s legal and economic frameworks,” they said.
The House quad-committee has been conducting an inquiry into the alleged connections between POGOs, the illegal drug trade, and the killings linked to former president Rodrigo Duterte’s drug war.
Empire 999, which was allegedly owned by Yang, owned a warehouse in Mexico, Pampanga where authorities seized P3.6 billion worth of shabu shipment last year.
