SEPTEMBER 12, 2019 – President Rodrigo Duterte has not named his choice yet to lead the Bureau of Corrections (BuCor), but Malacañang said the agency’s next head has to be honest and competent.
The Palace said this, following Senator Bong Go’s recommendation for a “killer” to lead the bureau, amid irregularities in the release of convicts on basis of good conduct.
“The president has only two qualifications: honesty and competence,” Presidential Spokesman Salvador Panelo told Palace reporters.
Go, who previously served as Duterte’s aide, said on Wednesday that the President is looking at former military or police officers as new BuCor chief.
But if he were to be asked, he would want a “killer” to replace former Marine captain Nicanor Faeldon, whom the President sacked over the alleged anomalies in the implementation of good conduct time allowance.
“Basta ako, ang nire-recommend ko kay Pangulo, ang mamuno, killer,” the neophyte senator said.
“Basta qualified po siyang i-appoint. Basta killer,” he maintained, without further explaining his position. (Karen Macalalad / AAD)
