(May 10, 2022) – As expected, Pasig Mayor Vico Sotto won his second term after a landslide victory against testy rival Vice Mayor Iyo Bernardo.
Sotto, who ran under Aksyon Demokratiko, was proclaimed the winner of the mayoral race by the city board of canvassers on Tuesday morning.
In the partial and unofficial tally of the Commission on Elections, the 29-year-old Sotto received 335,851 votes while Bernardo only received 45,604 votes.
“Nakita po natin, malinaw ang mandato sa atin ng (mga) Pasigueno, itutuloy natin ang pagbabago na nasimulan na natin sa lungsod ng Pasig,” said Sotto.

Sotto’s running mate, former basketball player and former Pasig representative Dodot Jaworski Jr. won the vice mayoral race with 205,250 votes.
Incumbent Pasig Rep. Roman Romulo, Sotto’s ally, also won with 304,157 votes. The majority of the winning councilors also came from the slate of the charismatic Sotto.
“Very confident that we have a city council that is aligned with our vision for clean and honest transparency governance with our city. Mas mabilis na tayo makakilos,” said Sotto, the son of comedian Vic Sotto and veteran actress Coney Reyes.

Despite Sotto’s landslide win, Bernardo refused to concede as he cried election fraud. He and his supporters trooped to the Pasig City Hall on Monday night to express their frustrations. Bernardo is eyeing filing a proclamation protest.

Sotto, however, refused to dwell on Bernardo’s claims.
“I wish him all the best, I wish him peace of mind. Sa akin, nagtatrabaho ako. Trabaho tayo na sana ano mang posisyon natin, kung ano mang partido, kulay ng pulitika natin, sana ngayon tapos na ang halalan at tayo ay magtrabaho,” said Sotto.
In March, Bernardo filed a cyberlibel case against Sotto due to negative remarks regarding his performance as a public official. In response, Sotto commented with a laughing emoji.
