(October 4, 2024) – Former vice president Atty. Leni Robredo confirmed her candidacy to run for mayor of Naga City, making the announcement on her official Facebook page earlier today.
Robredo also announced the line-up of candidates that were selected to join the “Team Naga” slate for 2025 local elections.
“The line-up is the result of extensive consultations conducted by Robredo, who invited Naga’s residents, organizations, and sectors to field and vet aspiring candidates,” the post reads.
Robredo’s Team Naga 2025 are as follows:
• Outgoing City Administrator Elmer Baldemoro
• Incumbent Councilor Jess Albeus
• Incumbent Councilor Gayle Abonal-Gomez
• Outgoing City Budget Officer Frank Mendoza
• Atty. Areiz Macaraig
• Former City Health Officer Dr. Butch Borja
• Former Councilor Miles Raquid-Arroyo
• Incumbent Councilor Omar Buenafe
• Incumbent Councilor Jose Perez
• Incumbent Councilor Oying Rosales
Among the key figures of her team is outgoing Camarines Sur Rep. Gabby Bordado, who is running for vice mayor.
Bordado previously served as vice mayor of Naga, working alongside Robredo’s late husband, Jesse Robredo, who was a longtime mayor of the city.
The team also includes incumbent councilors, city administrators, and other local figures with notable backgrounds in public service.
Robredo further underscored the importance of ethical leadership, a tradition started by Jesse Robredo, in guiding the selection process.
“A tradition started by her late husband, long-time Naga City Mayor Jesse Robredo, all aspiring candidates were vetted based on a criteria that included integrity, character, experience, and contribution to people empowerment,” the post further reads.
“Ang aking mga kasama ngayon, lahat na-evaluate base sa tatlong kategorya: sa ethical standards, sa capacity at experience, sa governance,” Robredo said.
