(March 31, 2025) – Land Transportation Office (LTO) Chief Assistant Secretary Atty. Vigor Mendoza II has ordered the agency’s Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) to conduct an investigation into a road rage incident in Antipolo City, Rizal, that escalated into a shooting.
The shooting spree left four people injured, including a motorcycle rider in critical condition after sustaining a gunshot wound in the head. Reports also indicate that the gunman accidentally shot his female partner in the leg.
Mendoza has directed the LTO-Intelligence and Investigation Division (LTO-IID) to look into the case and determine the appropriate actions, including the possible revocation of the involved parties’ driver’s licenses.
Following the directive, Melitante has issued a show cause order to the SUV driver and three motorcycle riders involved in the altercation.
The SUV driver’s and one of the motorcycle rider’s licenses were suspended for 90 days. Both the SUV and the motorcycle were placed under alarm status pending investigation results.
Mendoza futher emphasized the importance of staying calm on the road, warning that road rage can lead to dire consequences.
“Nakakalungkot ang ganitong pangyayari na hindi na natin binibigyan ng dignidad ang ating mga sarili, na talo pa natin ang mga bata na magsusuntukan agad sa gitna ng kalsada dahil sa bagay na puwede namang pagpasensyahan,” he said.
The incident, captured in a now-viral video, showed the SUV driver engaging in a fistfight with at least two motorcycle riders before pulling out a firearm.
Authorities have identified the suspect as a 28-year-old businessman from Quezon City. He is facing multiple frustrated homicide charges.
Mendoza further reiterated his call for responsible driving, urging motorists to exercise patience and self-control on the road.
“Lagi nating tatandaan na may pamilya tayong dapat buhayin, at may pamilya tayong naghihintay na laging umaasa at nananalangin na makauwi tayo ng maayos sa ating mga tahanan,” he said.
