(September 12, 2024) – The Land Transportation Office (LTO) on Thursday issued a show-cause order to a vlogger who posted a video of himself entering the South Luzon Expressway (SLEX) on his motorcycle despite knowing that it was not allowed.
In the viral video, the vlogger admitted that his motorcycle has an engine capacity below the required 400 cubic centimeters but said he wanted to test if could still enter SLEX.
His stunt gained backlash among netizens, who called on the LTO to take action for the disregard of the law.
“Ito ay maliwanag na pambabastos sa rules and regulations ng expressways na ginawa naman para sa kaligtasan hindi lamang ng motorcycle riders kung hindi pati na rin ang iba pang motorista,” said LTO assistant secretary Vigor Mendoza II in a statement.
Under Republic Act No. 2000 or the Limited Access Highway Act, motorcycles with engine displacements below 400 cubic centimeters are prohibited from entering expressways.
Mendoza said they instructed the vlogger to appear before the agency on September 16. He warned that if he fails to show up, the case will be decided based on the available evidence.
“As the identified rider and registered owner of the identified motorcycle, you are directed to show cause in writing why you should not be administratively charged for disregarding traffic signs and reckless driving,” added Mendoza.
The vlogger, a resident from Quezon City, was also asked to explain why his driver’s license should not be suspended or revoked.
His driver’s license and motorcycle have been placed on alarm pending the investigation.
Last January, a similar incident happened when a junior officer from the Philippine Coast Guard was caught illegally entering SLEX on his motorcycle and refused to stop after being flagged by authorities.
Mendoza maintained that these actions are “not only irresponsible but also dangerous,” which put the lives of others at risk.
