Maricel Soriano’s newest ‘Golden Sampal’ awardee: Kim Chiu in ‘Linlang’

(April 12, 204) – Her acting prowess and brilliant performances made the “Diamond Star” Maricel Soriano one of the greatest actors of our time. But one particular skill elevated her to iconic status: Her intense, no-holds-barred slaps.

That’s why to be awarded the “Golden Sampal” by Marya may also mean that an actor has achieved a certain milestone in his or her showbiz career.

For Kim Chiu, having experienced those unforgiving slaps in one of “Linlang’s” most trending scenes, this is a dream come true. The other casts of the teleserye, Paulo Avelino as Victor Lualhati and JM de Guzman as Alex Lualhati, as well as its directors FM Reyes and Jojo Saguin, could not help but marvel at how Kim and Maricel’s characters, Juliana and Amelia, showed the intensity of a mother-in-law’s anger and “the other woman’s” ambitious but pitiful state.

Soriano does not go easy on her co-stars when a project demands a sampalan scene. Case in point: Maricel and Snooky Serna’s scene in “Inagaw Mo ang Lahat sa Akin,” where the two rolled violently, slapping each other, for one long take.

Another was when Janice De Belen’s hair quickly changed from wavy to puffy as soon as the “Diamond Star” was finished with her in “Babaeng Hampaslupa. “Ang sakit!” exclaimed De Belen to Marya when they talked about the scene on the former’s vlog.

Same no-mercy intensity at galing din ang ipinakita ng karakter ni Maricel sa “Linlang” sa naging trending scene nito, kung saan pinaulanan niya ng hindi lang mag-asawa, kung ‘di mag-ina, magtiyahin, at mag-apong sampal ang karakter ni Kim nang mahuli nitong nakikipagyakapan ito sa kanyang anak na si Alex. Aminadong shookt si Kim pagkatapos ng kanilang eksena pero no hard feelings naman daw, dahil pangarap at nasa bucket list pa raw niya ito.

Kung makakasugat lang din ang mga linyang binibitawan ni Marya sa teleserye, siguradong duguan na si Juliana dahil sa tabil at talim ng dila ni Amelia. We say DESERVE, dahil talaga namang nakakairita ang kabit-enyang si Juliana sa teleseryeng ito!

It all began when Juliana got pregnant at an early age by her now-husband, Victor, who is Amelia’s illegitimate son. Pagkatapos manganak ni Juliana ay lumipat na siya sa bahay ng nanay ni Victor at simula noon, nakita na niya ang totoong ugali ni Amelia. Sino kaya ang magwawagi bilang reyna ng tahanan: Si Queen Amelia o si Princess Juliana?

Sa early stages ng relationship nina Juliana at Victor, never nangialam si Amelia sa kanilang dalawa kahit pa noong nagdesisyon silang bumukod ng tirahan. Nagsimula lamang iyon noong kausapin ni Lola Pilar si Amelia tungkol sa napansin niyang nagkakalabuang relasyon ng mag-asawa. But we all know what the real reason is: Para ito sa planong pagsasama nina Juliana and Alex–Victor’s half-brother and Amelia’s favorite son. Sa panahong ito, tanging sina Juliana at Alex lang ang nakaaalam ng secret affair nila.

Basta para sa ikabubuti ng nag-iisang anak na si Alex, walang palalampasin na pagkakataon si Amelia para iwasto ang landas nito. Kasama na rito ang kanyang ginawang pag-utos kay Alex na hiwalayan si Juliana, sa takot na masira ang buhay nito. Pero siyempre, hindi lang si Alex ang kanyang pinagsabihan. Hindi rin nakaligtas sa pangaral ang kanyang manugang nang puntahan niya ito sa opisina! Panoorin ang kanilang juicy dialogues sa eksenang ito:

Hindi lang pakialamera, pero matindi rin ang bias ni Ma’am Amelia, dahil noong nabisto na ni Victor ang kawalanghiyaan ni Alex, todo-gaslight naman sina Juliana at Amelia para pagtakpan ito. Dito nagkasundo ang dalawang warring ladies, dahil si Alex lang ang sakalam sa kanilang mga puso at todo ang mga ito kung protektahan ang abogado.

Matapos humantong sa brutal na away ng Lualhati brothers ang kanilang away over Juliana, maraming pagbabago sa kanilang buhay: Nalaman na ni Sylvia ang ginagawang panloloko ng kanyang asawa, ang pagbabalik-boxing ni Victor, ang ‘di natuloy na annulment ng mag-asawang Lualhati, at ang pagsasama nilang muli sa iisang bahay.

Pero, of course, hindi pa rin natinag sina Juliana at Alex, na patuloy pa ring nagkikita lalo na’t naging magkalapit pa ang kanilang mga tinitirhan.
