More than 303,000 individuals affected by Tropical Storm Enteng

(September 3, 2024) – Over 80,000 families or more than 303,000 individuals across several regions are affected by Tropical Storm “Enteng,” according to Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) spokesperson Asec. Irene Dumlao on Tuesday.

Out of the said numbers, 14,000 families or 60,000 individuals, are currently staying in evacuation centers.

The regions most severely impacted by the typhoon include Metro Manila, Cagayan, Isabela, Quirino, Aurora, Bulacan, Batangas, Cavite, Laguna, Quezon, Rizal, Albay, Camarines Sur, Camarines Norte, Masbate, Sorsogon, parts of Region 6, Cebu City, Biliran, and the provinces of Eastern, Northern, and Western Samar.

In response, the DSWD has coordinated with other government agencies in the response cluster to the necessary food packs, non-food items, and medical supplies, as well as the operation of evacuation centers in coordination with local government units (LGUs).

The agency also coordinated with the local government units especially in the affected places of the Typhoon and said that 150,000 food packs have already been requested by local governments.

Asec. Dumlao said they have already provided initial assistance to affected areas, including Metro Manila, Albay, Camarines Sur, Antique, Negros Occidental, Eastern Samar, Northern Samar, and Western Samar. This aid includes family food packs, hygiene kits, and kitchen kits.

She added that on Tuesday morning, over PHP 16 million worth of humanitarian assistance has been provided, with more expected as reports continue to come in from field offices.

“This morning nasa mahigit P16 million of humanitarian assistance were already provided but as the reports are coming in from our field offices we are expecting these figures, these numbers to increase,” she said.

The DSWD has also coordinated with LGUs to provide hot meals and non-food items to stranded passengers at ports affected by travel cancellations due to the typhoon.
