(May 19, 2025) – Malacañang expressed concern over Vice Pres. Sara Duterte’s recent statement describing her upcoming impeachment trial as a “bloodbath,” with Palace officials calling the remark “brutal” and urged the public not to take it literally.
“Medyo may pagkabiyolente ang tugon ng ating Bise Presidente. Pero we hope that it is just a figure of speech and it should not be taken seriously,” ” said Palace Press Officer Usec. Claire Castro in a press briefing on Monday.
VP Duterte, speaking over the weekend in Davao City, said she was unafraid of the trial’s outcome.

“I don’t have expectations of an acquittal or guilty verdict. For me, I already accepted the verdict whether it is guilty or acquittal. I am already at peace,” VP Duterte said.
“But sinabihan ko na rin sila [the panel], I truly want a trial because I want a bloodbath talaga,” she emphasized.
Despite the VP Duterte’s fiery tone, Malacañang maintained that Pres. Bongbong Marcos Jr. will not get involved in the issue.
“Hindi po makikialam ang Pangulo sa ganyang isyu,” Castro noted.
VP Duterte’s statement drew mixed reactions online and from lawmakers.
Congresswoman-elect Leila de Lima called it a “toxic rhetoric,” though the Palace declined to comment on her remarks.

The Palace downplayed this, noting the President’s focus is now on governance rather than past political conflicts.
“Kung ‘yan naman po ang nais niya at talaga naman po magkakaroon ng balitaktakan kapag magkakaroon ng trail hayaan na lang po natin itong gumulong,” said Castro.
