(July 12, 2021) – A city government in the capital region ordered the closure of a bar after it entertained dozens of guests without implementing public health measures to control the spread of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19), an official said on Monday.
Rannie Ludovica, a member of Quezon City’s task force implementing pandemic protocols, said Ciso’s Gastrobar, located at Del Monte Avenue, was shut down after a viral video showed people neglecting physical distancing measures. They were also not wearing face masks.
Social media influencers were also spotted partying inside the bar, drawing heavy criticisms from the public. All the people inside were seen sitting close to each other while enjoying their drinks in the indoor venue which allows for faster virus transmission.
The bar’s manager will face sanctions under the Mandatory Reporting of Notifiable Diseases Act which compels the public to inform authorities about possible health concerns in a particular event, according to Ludovica.
Ludovica said they were also trying to identify the attendees of the party to hold them accountable for violating national and local ordinances related to the COVID-19.
Quezon City officials, along with the members of the local police unit, also vowed to conduct a nightly inspection of all the bars and restaurants within the city to ensure compliance with public health protocols.
Police officers have recently arrested 73 people after raiding resto-bars last week.
A similar incident was also reported in Cebu City in May, leading to the suspension of the bar’s special disco permit, which allows them to operate at a limited capacity during the pandemic.
