MAY 22, 2020 — The Department of Health on Friday reported 163 new COVID-19 cases today, the first time in over ten days with less than 200 new infections.

The total COVID-19 cases in the country now stands at 13,597.

The DOH also reported 11 new deaths, with total casualties now at 857, and 92 new recoveries, bringing the total recoveries to 3,092.

There are also 9,648 active COVID-19 cases, or those still undergoing treatment.

The Department of Health has maintained that the country is still experiencing a first wave of infections, refuting an earlier statement by Health Secretary  Francisco Duque III that the country is now having a second wave.

Abroad, the Department of Foreign Affairs reported 43 new infections, bringing the total of overseas Filipinos testing positive for the coronavirus at 2,504.

Of the total confirmed cases, there are now five new recoveries recorded in the Americas, Asia and the Pacific and Middle East and two new deaths in the Middle East as well.

The latest figures show that countries in Europe and the Middle East still have the highest number of COVID-19 positive Filipinos.

The Asia and the Pacific have the fewest number of cases, while the Americas still have the highest number of fatalities.

Globally, there are now 5,118,416 COVID-19 cases, with 333,212 deaths and 1,960,223 recoveries. (Audrie Julienne Bernas / JBS)
